In a recent meeting, the Rockford City Council’s Finance and Personnel Committee gave the green light to advance a plan to expand the Rockford Family Peace Center. This center provides crucial services to survivors of sexual and domestic abuse in the stateline area. City Administrator Todd Cagnoni emphasized that this approval marks a significant step in providing more support for struggling individuals.
The committee recognized the need for a larger space for the Family Peace Center, currently situated on N. Main Street. The new location on N. Church St. will cost $795,000, with the goal of enhancing services and increasing efficiency. Megan Brechon, the client services manager, highlighted that the expansion will allow for broader services and accommodate more survivors and partners.
Cagnoni expressed his support for the Family Peace Center, noting the importance of their impactful work in the community. The expansion will double the center’s space to 28,000 sq. ft., enabling them to offer additional survivor services and provide hope for the community.
The final vote on the expansion is set for the next full City Council meeting on March 4th. The Family Peace Center, which has already assisted over 1,800 survivors, is expected to open its new location on July 31st, 2024.
