Merrill’s finances get a fresh start with new director on board.

The City of Merrill in Wisconsin has hired Emily Ley as its new Finance Director. Ley began her role on January 2, 2024, and will work alongside the current Finance Director, Kathy Unertl, until her retirement in mid-July. Ley has 10 years of experience in municipal finance and previously served as Assistant Finance Director for the City of Wausau. She has a strong background in financial management, data analysis, and long-term planning.

City Administrator Rod Akey stated that Ley’s strong communication skills and experience in modernizing financial policies made her an excellent fit for the position. As Finance Director, Ley will be responsible for managing the city’s finances, preparing budgets, conducting financial analysis, and communicating financial information to city officials and the public.

Ley expressed her commitment to providing quality stewardship of city resources, timely and accurate financial information, and excellent customer service. She hopes to explore Merrill, learn more about the community, and help the city achieve its goals.

Overall, the City of Merrill found a qualified candidate for the Finance Director position sooner than expected and is looking forward to working with Ley in ensuring the financial success of the city.
